Relief:

As many of you know, Sarah Haslem and her children were involved in a car accident this past Sunday.  Annabelle and Stephen have concussions, but were released from the hospital following the accident.  Sarah, Emily, and Josh have been hospitalized this week.  Sarah and Emily have been in the Idaho Falls Hospital, and Josh has been at Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake.  We are happy to report that both Sarah and Josh have had successful surgeries and that Emily is healing well from her lung injury and compression fractures in her back.  We do not know yet when they will be coming home.  Sarah broke several vertebrae in her neck and shattered her left hand.  She will have many weeks of recovery following her release from the hospital.  Our Compassionate Service Leaders will be organizing meals and help with other needs around the house over the next several weeks.  We will be sending a sign-up sheet around in Relief Society, Young Women, and Primary.  If you have questions about how you can help, or would like to sign up for meals or help with other needs, please contact either Barbara Smith or April Evans.

We also ask you to continue to remember their family in your prayers.

Lesson Review: Joseph Fielding Smith 12 "The Oath and Covenant of the Priesthood"
Doctrine: "The blessings of the Lord are offered to the Saints and to the world through the ministrations of those who hold his holy priesthood, who represent him."

Invitation to action: President Smith said that priesthood holders have a greater incentive to strive for eternal life when they understand their covenants and the Lord's promises.  How is this true for all members of the church?

Promised blessings: "The blessings of the Lord are offered to all people through the ministrations of those who hold His holy priesthood."

"What a glorious thing it is to know that the Lord has offered to each of us the fullness of the priesthood, and has promised us that if we will receive this priesthood and magnify our callings, we shall gain an everlasting inheritance with him in his kingdom!"

Lesson Schedule:

June 8th - President's Instruction - Sister Rigby
June 15th - Joseph Fielding Smith #13 - Baptism
June 22nd - Teaching For Our Time
June 29th - 5th Sunday Lesson

Also, I wanted to share something that I read, studied, and taught to my family last month!  It has helped reinforce in my mind the importance of righteous parenting and protecting and defending the family.

One of my favorite paragraphs:

'The role of mother and father is best understood in light of the overall plan of salvation. Brigham Young taught: “The Lord created you and me for the purpose of becoming Gods like Himself; when we have been proved in our present capacity, and been faithful with all things He puts into our possession.” Among the most important things God has put into our possession centers on the family. God has given to each of us a portion of His power to create. In so doing, men and women have the capacity to create mortal bodies for God’s spirit children. Upon the creation of a mortal body, parents begin one of the most important tests of not only mortality but of their eternal existence: to see if they will do all they can to raise a righteous family. Ultimately, it is through righteous parenthood that men and women can prove themselves worthy of godhood, for I believe that the ultimate test of godhood is parenthood!'

So powerful! I hope you take the time to read it for yourselves:)

Lesson Review: Teaching For Our Time - President Uchtdorf - Grateful in Any Circumstances
Key doctrine: As disciples of Christ, we are commanded to “thank the Lord [our] God in all things,”1 to “sing unto the Lord with thanksgiving,”2 and to “let [our] heart be full of thanks unto God.”3

Invitation to Action: "Could I suggest that we see gratitude as a disposition, a way of life that stands independent of our current situation? In other words, I’m suggesting that instead of being thankful for things, we focus on being thankful in our circumstances—whatever they may be."

Promised Blessings: "Everyone’s situation is different, and the details of each life are unique. Nevertheless, I have learned that there is something that would take away the bitterness that may come into our lives. There is one thing we can do to make life sweeter, more joyful, even glorious.
We can be grateful!"

FAITH
Lesson Review: Combined lesson: Joseph Fielding Smith #11 "Honoring the Priesthood Keys Restored through Joseph Smith"
and Elder Oaks "The Keys and Authority of the Priesthood".

Doctrine:
"The united voice of those who hold the keys of the kingdom will always guide us where the Lord wants us to be." President Smith
"Priesthood keys direct women as well as men, and priesthood ordinances, and priesthood authority pertain to women as well as men." Elder Oakes

Invitation to Action:
In what ways can we sustain those who hold priesthood keys?
How can I gain a greater desire to better understand the priesthood?

Promised Blessings:
"I testify that if we shall look to the First Presidency and follow their counsel and direction, no power on earth can stay or change our course as a church, and as individuals we shall gain peace in this life and be inheritors of eternal glory in the world to come" President Smith

I close with some truths about the blessings of the priesthood. Unlike priesthood keys and priesthood ordinations, the blessings of the priesthood are available to women and to men on the same terms. The gift of the Holy Ghost and the blessings of the temple are familiar illustrations of this truth.
-Elder Oaks

Needs:

Belinda Ranova is looking for a home she can rent.  She would love to be able to stay in the Ward if possible.  If you are aware of any possibilities, please let her, or one of the presidency know.

Transitioning:

We have 3 Laurels who will be graduating from High School.  Please be aware of them as they will eventually be making the transition into Relief Society:

Kira Powell (Kira is already attending R.S.)
Sierra Hinckley
Stacey Powell

New Family:

A new family has moved into the Wilson's home!  Don't miss this opportunity to get to know them -  bring by a treat to share, or something, and introduce yourselves! Jared Hall works with Lavelle Spencer.  His girlfriend, Kristi, lives with him and they have one child and are expecting a second child.  They are a very nice family, and have enjoyed getting to know those who have stopped by.

Visiting Teaching:
Please continue to think about Visiting Teaching as a "Watchcare" program.  It is often the small things that make a difference!  Sister Bressler shares a recent experience she had:

"One of my Visiting Teachers unexpectedly brought over an Azalea plant a couple of weeks ago.  When she dropped it off, she said simply that she saw it and felt impressed to get it for me. I have been uplifted everyday for 2 weeks as I have enjoyed it sitting on my table!  It meant a lot to me just to know that someone had been thinking of me."
